Israel blocks Arab foreign ministers from attending meeting in Ramallah

Israeli authorities have prevented Arab foreign ministers from traveling to Ramallah for a meeting on Palestinian statehood and Gaza.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli occupation authorities have decided to prevent the foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan from traveling to Ramallah for a scheduled meeting on Sunday. The gathering was set to discuss the Israeli genocide in Gaza and preparations for the upcoming New York conference on the two-state solution.

Israeli Foreign Ministry officials stated that “the Palestinian Authority, which still refuses to condemn the October 7, 2023 attack, was planning to host a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Ramallah to discuss advancing the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

They claimed that “such a Palestinian state would inevitably become a terrorist state in the heart of Israel. Israel will not cooperate with any moves aimed at harming it and its security. The Palestinian Authority must stop violating its agreements with Israel on all levels.”

A senior Palestinian official confirmed that an Arab ministerial delegation had planned to visit Ramallah to address the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and coordinate efforts for the New York conference.

Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), stated that a delegation of Arab foreign ministers was set to arrive in Ramallah on Sunday.

The delegation was expected to include Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed. Majdalani also noted the possibility of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan joining the meeting.

The ministerial committee, formed during the Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh and headed by the Saudi Foreign Minister, had originally planned this visit months ago but postponed it at the time.

Saudi Arabia and France are jointly chairing the “high-level international conference for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and implementation of the two-state solution,” scheduled to take place in New York City from June 17 to 20, according to the United Nations website.

The Gaza Strip has been enduring a devastating humanitarian crisis since Israel closed border crossings on March 2. The blockade has prevented the entry of food, medicine, aid, and fuel, while Israeli military actions have intensified against the region’s civilian population.
