AhlulBayt News Agency: European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced on Tuesday that the bloc will review its trade agreement with Israel in response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Amid growing international pressure, Israel has intensified its military offensive in the territory, prompting renewed scrutiny from EU leaders.
Speaking after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Kallas stated that a "strong majority" favored reassessing the bloc’s association agreement with Israel in light of the ongoing situation in Gaza.
“The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is catastrophic. While the limited aid that Israel has allowed in is welcome, it is far from enough. Assistance must reach people without obstruction and at scale,” she told reporters.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot welcomed the EU’s decision, confirming that 17 of the 27 member states supported the initiative.
Kallas also disclosed that sanctions targeting violent Israeli settlers have been prepared, but their implementation has been blocked by one member state, which she did not identify.
