AhlulBayt News Agency: A global hunger monitoring group has warned that the entire population of the Gaza Strip remains at risk of severe famine, with half a million people facing starvation. This marks a significant deterioration since its last report in October.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative released a report on Monday, stating that Gaza is still confronted with a critical risk of famine after more than a year and a half of devastating war. The vast majority of its approximately 2.1 million residents are in severe danger.
The IPC’s latest assessment analyzed the food security situation from April 1 to May 10 and provided projections through the end of September.
Earlier on Monday, the United Nations Satellite Imagery Analysis Program reported that nearly 81% of Gaza’s arable land has suffered a sharp decline in crop health and density due to shelling, bulldozing, and ongoing conflict.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed that the lives of 2.1 million people in Gaza are at stake and called for an end to the food blockade, which has lasted nine weeks.
The UN office confirmed that its stocks are running low as the blockade enters its third month.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that the longer the blockade continues, the greater the irreparable damage to countless lives.
UNRWA stated that thousands of its trucks are ready to enter Gaza, with teams prepared to expand aid deliveries.
