Israeli intelligence source: captives used to justify destruction in Gaza

Israel’s conflict with Hamas has resulted in repeated military offensives in Gaza, often justified as efforts to secure hostages. Reports indicate that Israeli policies prioritize territorial control over the safe return of captives.

AhlulBayt News Agency reports that Israeli intelligence sources have revealed that the regime has not prioritized the safe return of captives held by Hamas in Gaza but is instead using them as justification to continue its military operations.

A report published by Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth states that Israeli authorities are fully aware that their ongoing attacks in Gaza put the captives’ lives at risk and have already resulted in fatalities.

According to an intelligence source, the Israeli military maneuvers directly lead to the deaths of captives rather than working towards their safe release. Another source told Ynet News that the presence of captives provides an excuse for Israeli forces to demolish all remaining buildings in Gaza.

The source further claimed that the broader objective is to encourage “voluntary emigration,” which effectively amounts to forcing Palestinians out of Gaza to make space for Israeli settlers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alongside Defense Minister Israel Katz and senior military officials, has repeatedly defended continued military pressure as the only strategy to secure the release of captives.

On May 6, Israel threatened to launch a heightened offensive in Gaza, which Netanyahu described as a campaign aimed at securing hostages and achieving full territorial control. He asserted that Israel is approaching its final phase in the operation.
