AhlulBayt News Agency: Saudi authorities have arrested five foreign nationals in Khamis Mushayt, located in the southern Asir region, for orchestrating an unauthorized Hajj campaign, as part of intensified efforts to curb fraudulent activities ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
The suspects, identified as four Bangladeshi citizens and one Sudanese national, were detained following an investigation and subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution. Officials revealed that the group had used social media platforms to promote misleading advertisements, falsely promising accommodation and transportation services within the sacred sites of Mecca.
These deceptive promotions not only posed financial risks to unsuspecting pilgrims but also threatened to exacerbate logistical challenges during the Hajj season, a period already strained by the high volume of attendees.
Authorities emphasized that such unauthorized operations undermine the integrity of the pilgrimage and jeopardize the safety of worshippers. In 2024, a significant number of undocumented pilgrims lost their lives due to extreme heat conditions in Mecca, highlighting the dangers of unregulated participation.
Saudi Public Security has urged the public to rely exclusively on licensed service providers and to report any suspicious offers to prevent further fraudulent activities.
