AhlulBayt News Agency: Three individuals were injured in a violent stabbing incident at a mosque in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, on Friday afternoon. According to local authorities, the confrontation began outside the mosque on York Boulevard before escalating inside the building. Hamilton police received emergency calls around 2:15 p.m., reporting multiple stabbings.
Officials stated that those involved were known to each other, and preliminary investigations suggest the attack was not motivated by hate. Emergency responders transported one victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while another was treated at the scene. A third individual later arrived at the hospital independently, also with minor injuries.
Police are actively searching for two suspects who fled the scene. Their mode of escape remains unclear, with conflicting reports suggesting they may have left in one or two separate vehicles. Authorities have yet to release descriptions of the suspects.
Aslam Rana, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre, visited the mosque later in the day after learning about the incident. He spoke with police officers and noted that the altercation occurred near the mosque’s shoe storage area while a prayer service was underway. Expressing concern, he stated, “Prayer places should be safe and sound ... everyone should be able to pray and return home safely.”
The mosque, one of several serving Hamilton’s Muslim community, remains at the center of an ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made, and authorities have not disclosed further details about those involved.
