Massive protest march in Morocco in support of Gaza, against Israeli genocide

Tens of thousands of Moroccans gathered on Sunday in the capital, Rabat, to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn the ongoing Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Ahlulbayt News Agency: Tens of thousands of Moroccans gathered on Sunday in the capital, Rabat, to demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn the ongoing Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The mass protest began at Bab al-Ahad Square and continued toward the Moroccan Parliament building. Despite heavy rain, large crowds chanted slogans in support of Gaza, waving Palestinian flags and Israeli genocide against civilians in the blockaded Palestinian territory.

According to Hespress, the demonstration drew people from across the country, including men, women, and children, as well as political and civil society leaders. Protesters chanted messages such as “Salute to Gaza, salute to the resistance” and “Marches will continue until normalization [with Israel] falls.”

The march included symbolic scenes highlighting the suffering of civilians in Gaza, and demonstrators burned Israeli flags in protest.

Organizers said the protest aimed to deliver several key messages: rejection of genocide in Gaza, continued grassroots support for Palestine, a demand for an end to official normalization with Israel, and a call on the international community and humanitarian institutions to take urgent action.

Since mid-March, Gaza has witnessed an escalation in Israeli military operations. A fragile ceasefire, which had held for nearly two months, collapsed on March 18 when Israel resumed its aggression. Since then, intense airstrikes have targeted various parts of Gaza, further crippling infrastructure and overwhelming the region’s limited healthcare system.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, over 166,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured since the start of the war on October 7, 2023. The majority of the casualties are women and children. In addition, more than 11,000 individuals remain missing, many feared buried under rubble.

Morocco is one of several Arab nations that established formal diplomatic ties with Israel as part of the 2020 Abraham Accords. However, public sentiment in the country continues to express strong support for the Palestinian cause.
