A Quran recitation session is going to be held in the holy city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A Quran recitation session is going to be held in the holy city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.

The Payambar A’zam Mosque in the city will host the session on Wednesday, a few days before the start of the month of fasting.

Prominent qari Javad Kashefi, a winner of top title in Iran’s National Quran Competition, will recite verses from the Holy Quran at the program.

Other qaris taking part in the Quranic event include Ali Reza Kohandel and Yusef Adineh Mohammadi.

A religious speech by Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Morteza Mousavinejad, recitation of Ibtihal songs and poetry recitation, and a competition will be other parts of the program.

Ramadan is the ninth and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations.

They also devote more time to prayer, charity and good deeds, seeking to strengthen their faith and purify their souls.

One of the practices of Ramadan is to recite and study the Quran with some Muslims completing the reading of the entire Quran during the month.
