AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Ebrahim Taherian announced that the country's mission in Turkey was threatened by a person affiliated to the ISIS terrorist group.
"The threat was made by a person who introduced himself as an ISIS affiliate and the Turkish police tightened security measures around the embassy after receiving the threat," Taherian said on Monday, based on the Telegram channel of the Iranian embassy in Turkey.
He also rejected media reports on evacuation of the embassy and any bombing in the mission.
Earlier today, the Iranian foreign ministry also rejected media reports claiming that the country's embassy in Ankara had been evacuated after receiving a suicide bomb threat.
"Such a report and claim is sheer lie and our embassy's personnel are healthy and in full security at their work and they are busy with their daily jobs," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.
The Turkish Daily Sabah had earlier today quoted Sözcü newspaper as claiming that the Iranian Embassy in Ankara had been evacuated after Turkish security forces received a tip about a possible suicide bombing plot.
After receiving the tip, Turkish police evacuated the Iranian ambassador and cordoned off Tehran Street where the embassy is located, it added.
Meantime, an official at the Iranian embassy in Turkey said that no threat was received by the mission, adding that the Turkish police has tightened security measures outside the embassy.
He added that the ambassador and all personnel are present inside the embassy and the consulate sector is rendering its routine services.
"Police has not yet explained about the reason for increasing security measures outside the embassy and closure of the street and we are waiting for their explanations," the official said.
