Iran’s Zarif, Russia’s Lavrov discuss regional issues on phone

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov conferred on the latest regional developments and the legal regime of the Caspian Sea.

During their phone conversation on Tuesday, the two top diplomats also discussed the two countries’ bilateral ties.

The talks between the two sides came a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Tehran for tripartite regional summit between presidents of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia.

Speaking at the meeting with the visiting Russian President in Tehran last Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Russia is a “friend, neighbor and strategic partner” of Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to develop and strengthen inclusive relations and cooperation with Russia.

"Good agreements between the two countries in various sectors, including in the energy, peaceful nuclear technologies and transportation and transit, have been made, which should be further stepped up in the implementation phase".

Rouhani emphasized the importance of the development of Iran-Russia cooperation and economic and trade relations, saying, "Tehran welcomes active participation of Russian investors and private sector to participate in major infrastructure projects, including in industry, energy, railway construction and development and the North-South Corridor".
