In the meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in New York on Tuesday, Dr Rouhani said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to and fulfilled its obligations under the JCPOA based on seven reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)”.
“We will not initiate violating the JCPOA and we hope that the rest of the countries will adhere to their legal and moral obligations," said Dr Rouhani, stating that Japan's decisive support of JCPOA was vital to consolidating peace and stability in the region.
The President further commented on the areas of investment and development of Japan’s joint cooperation with Iran, saying: “We welcome development of inclusive relations between Tehran and Tokyo, and Japan can be involved and work in various sectors including oil, gas, petrochemicals and ports development in Iran”.
Dr Rouhani said: “Development of southern ports, including Chabahar, will play an important role in the development of Iran-Japan relations and the entire region, and Japanese investors and business people can also invest in the development of ports and rail networks”.
The president also referred to the need to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the environmental sector and confronting air pollution and said: "The issue of confronting air pollution is important to us and we support the good cooperation of Iran and Japan on environment”.
“Japan has a lot of experience in optimising energy consumption and can have an important role in this field in Iran,” continued the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Dr Rouhani added: “There is also a lot of preparation and collaboration in science and technology, high technology and universities”.
The president also referred to the importance of tourism and said: “Tourism and the relationship between the two nations are a very important issues and we are interested in developing the facilities required for interaction and travel between the two nations”.
Describing the finalisation of bank credits for the development of joint projects by the two countries effective, he said: "We have taken steps in the field of banking communications, but we need a closer and wider relationship between banks, and I hope with these measures, relations between the two countries in all economic, scientific and technological fields develop”.
The president also described the stability and security of the East Asian region very important and said: “Iran has good relations with Japan, South Korea and China. We are against start of any arms race, including in East Asia and we want peace in the Korean Peninsula”.
"Weapons of mass destruction are dangerous to the whole world, and we are opposed to nuclear weapons and threats and we have explicitly stated this view," said Dr Rouhani, referring to the need to attempt to establish peace in the East Asian region.
President Rouhani stressed: “The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort in trying to develop stability and security in the region”.
The president also voiced concerns about the displacement of more than 400,000 Muslim people in Myanmar, saying: “Pressure from the side of countries such as Japan on the government of Myanmar and helping the people and the displaced in the country can help reduce the suffering of Myanmar Muslims”.
The Japanese Prime Minister also expressed hope to travel to Tehran in the future, stressing that the Japanese government is willing to develop its relations with Iran in all areas of mutual interest and that they supported activities of Japanese companies in Iran”.
Referring to Japan's line of credit to Iran, Shinzo Abe said: "I hope that these negotiations yield result and accelerate the implementation of energy-related projects".
He also said that cooperation between Japan and Iran in medicine and environment, including the revival of Lake Urmia and climate, saying: "We are ready to further develop relations in cultural, social and tourism fields”.
The Japanese prime minister also reaffirmed his support of the JCPOA and said: “Iran is the axis of the Middle East and we call for all sides to live up to their commitments stated in the agreement”.
Shinzo Abe also condemned North Korea's long-range missile launch, saying: “The Security Council and the international community must unilaterally condemn this action by Pyongyang and put pressure on the country to change its way”.
