(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Takfiri groups had planned to carry out a terrorist attack targeting pilgrims going from Balochistan province to Karbala, Iraq.
The plot was foiled after security forces in Quetta stopped a searched a suspected motorcycle parked on the path of the pilgrims on Monday night.
They discovered 10 kilograms of explosives planted in the motorcycle and defused them but no one has been detained over the terrorist plot yet.
Shias in Pakistan have been the subject of numerous attacks, with the Pakistani faction of the Taliban and notorious terrorist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi carrying out most of such assaults in the past.
The Shia community accounts for some 20 percent of Pakistan’s 200-million population and is mostly based in Balochistan, an area which borders Iran and Afghanistan and has oil and gas resources.
However, security has been a main issue for the Shias as thousands of them have been killed as a result of militancy and hate attacks over the past decade.
