(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Pakistani police say attackers have thrown a hand grenade near a Shiite mosque in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, martyring a 13-year-old boy and wounding 12 other people.
Karachi police spokesman Sohail Jokhio said Monday the attackers escaped on a motorcycle after throwing the hand grenade near the mosque where a congregation was in progress.
Jokhio said four women and three children were among the wounded. They had been heading to the main gate of the mosque, located in a densely populated area of central Karachi.
“A women and a child are in critical condition while rest of the injured are stable,” Nadeem Rajput, medical officer of the hospital said.
Pakistan's biggest Shiite religious-politcal party, Majils e Wahdat e Muslimeen (MWM), condemned the attack, saying Shia faithfuls were targeted.
Meanwhile, in a statement, banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami (LeJ) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Shia are currently commemorating the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad during Islamic month of Muharram.
