AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Taliban wants to force the Afghan government to give up power, but President Ashraf Ghani is a tough figure, who will not relinquish power easily, an Iranian political expert believes.
Foreign Policy Analyst Pir Mohammad Mollazehi said on Tuesday that in terms of a military option, Taliban forces have initiated vast incursions in different parts of Afghanistan and the US's military intervention and bombardment by B-52 strategic bomber could not push them back, even if it is said that Taliban have suffered great losses.
Reportedly, the Taliban has overtaken 90 percent of Afghanistan, Mollazehi said, adding that they have changed their tactics and started capturing provinces instead of taking over districts; so, it seems that the Afghan security forces and popular mobilizations could not stop the Taliban's advances so far, he noted.
***Passive attempts to resolve crisis
Mollazehi also evaluated attempts to resolve the current crisis in Afghanistan through political negotiations as submissive, noting that other states could not adopt a clear stance on the crisis in order to pursue a joint effort.
***Pakistan's role in Afghanistan
This is Pakistan that is running the game in Afghanistan; in another word, Pakistanis have decided to return the Taliban to power; the political expert believes, adding that Islamabad has reached a concession deal with the United States in this respect.
Of course, the Taliban has not abided by its consensus and they have attacked capital cities of provinces although they promised to avoid such incursions, he argued.
***Kabul still not in spotlight
The analyst went on to say that should the Taliban attack Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan will fall in the hands of this group, but the capture of Kabul is still not among their plan, Mollazehi said, adding that they want to see the administration of President Ashraf Ghani would relinquish power to form a temporary government, but Ghani is a tough politician, who will not surrender effortlessly.
***Only way out of Afghanistan standstill
Mollazehi further urged the Islamic Republic of Iran to stand with China, Russia and India to take a common stance on Afghanistan, adding that Tehran should try to help create a balance of power in the war-torn neighboring country; so, the Iranians should avoid entering into clashes in Afghanistan and at the same time, they should assist popular mobilizations.
The only way out of the deadlock in Afghanistan is the balance of power, he said, noting that now the balance is in favor of the Taliban, but it should be balanced, and that needs international support for popular mobilization forces because the Taliban would not accept any consensus and it insists on forming an Islamic emirate; so, the international efforts should be in a way that prevents Taliban from usurping big cities.
