Iran's Police chief congratulates Mosul liberation

In his message, released on Monday, Ashtari said liberation of the important, strategic and historic city of Mosul is the result of national unity, top clergies' support, government intelligence and efforts and armed forces' self-sacrifice.

Undoubtedly, the victory indicates complete defeat and collapse of Takfiri terrorists from Mosul, he said.

Mosul fell in June 2014, when ISIS in an attack took control of the city. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul on October 16, 2016.

The eastern part of Mosul was recaptured from ISIS in about three months and the most populated part of the city, known as the Old City of Mosul, in the western bank of Tigris River was liberated in recent days.
