(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iraqis are preparing to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali---the first Shia Imam amid escalation of violence across the country.

Iraqi security forces and authorities have promised to take every possible measure to provide security in the country to ensure safe processions.

Among other cities in Iraq, Najaf will witness tightest security as millions of people will flock to this holy city in a bid to visit shrine of the first Shia Imam.

The Iraqis started this week with a bloodbath that has claimed scores of lives. But, that has not deterred the people from taking part in the upcoming religious event.

Recent bloody attacks in Iraq have targeted mosques, football stadiums, shopping areas and cafes where people gathered as they started to break their fast.

Hundreds of inmates escaped from Abu Ghraib and Taji prisons in Monday. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant---an al-Qaeda front group in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the brazen attacks on the two jails. That has raised concerns of fresh wave of unrest and insecurity as people will prepare to mark Imam Ali’s death anniversary.
