Texas students encouraged to wear burqas, read Koran

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Female students at Lumberton High School in Texas were encouraged to dress in burqas, call Allah the only God and read selected texts from the Koran during a world geography class.The parents were not aware of the lesson until one of them had discovered a photograph of her 14-year-old daughter wearing a burqa on Facebook. “The Lumberton Independent School District released a statement defending the class. “The lesson that was offered focused on exposing students to world cultures, religions, customs and belief systems,” the statement read. “The lesson is not teaching a specific religion, and the students volunteered to wear the clothing.”Meanwhile Texas lawmakers have launched an investigation into the issue.End item/ 149
