A senior Iranian official says the ongoing summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran thwarts plots by enemies of the Islamic establishment and prepares the ground for failure of their economic sanctions.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “Enemies have been making their utmost efforts since a long time ago for the political isolation of the Islamic establishment but this [NAM] summit thwarted all their plots and prepared more ground for failure of their economic sanctions,” deputy intelligence minister said on Monday.

The Iranian official emphasized that despite sanctions and economic pressures, the Islamic establishment has been able to hold its head high.

More than 100 countries are partaking in the NAM summit that kicked off at expert level in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday and is scheduled to end on August 31.

At the opening ceremony of the NAM expert-level meeting on Sunday, Iran assumed the rotating presidency of the movement for three years.

The Iranian official added that Iran has great influence on international equations, particularly in the Middle East region.

“This is why enemies have always sought to undermine the Islamic establishment's role and progress by any means possible,” he noted.

The Islamic establishment is now the herald of resistance to the Muslim world and has proved that nations can resist against superpowers, the deputy minister pointed out.
