As Scotland is heading towards a referendum on being an independent country, an opinion poll has revealed that half of the British nationals believe the United Kingdom will not exist by 2032.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - According to a poll conducted by Ipsos Mori, 62 per cent of the people believe that the UK will keep its current union in five years, and about half of the people think that the UK would face split in two decades.

As the row over Scottish independence intensifies, the public are seemingly not sure whether the independence of Scotland could improve either Scotland's economic condition or the rest of the UK.

Some 73 per cent of the voters think independent Scotland would make no difference to their personal economy, while 54 per cent think it would have negative influence on Scotland's economy. And 34 per cent of them believe that the separation would have negative impact on the rest of the UK.

Earlier in January, leader of the Scottish National party (SNP) threw down the challenge on the UK government as he proposed the SNP government would stage Scottish independence referendum in 2014. Alex Slamond's move was planned to oppose the interference of the coalition government led by the center-right Tories, who are unpopular in Scotland.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron and leaders of main parties in Westminster have launched campaign against the Scottish vote, aiming to keep the UK together.

UK officials several times warned that SNP government should seek Westminster approval to organize an independence referendum, otherwise such electoral would be challenged in the courts.

Meanwhile in his latest speech, Salmond stressed that independence would provide the country with the tools, including corporation tax and alcohol excise duty, free university tuition, free prescriptions, that would endorse the financial recovery and improve the lives of the public.
