(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “The president had the opportunity to serve his country. I'm sure at some time he made the decision that isn't what he wanted to do,” Perry said on Tuesday as he was campaigning in Iowa State of the US.
Perry, himself a former US Air Force pilot, said that the country's veterans would prefer Obama to be replaced by a “commander-in-chief” who has served in the military, The Telegraph reported.
He further criticized Obama's bad handling of the economy and his high federal spending.
“If this guy prints more money between now and the election … I don't know what y'all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas. Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treasonous in my opinion,” Perry said.
Perry's harsh criticism comes as Obama's approval rating dropped to 26 percent for the first time in a Gallup's daily tracking poll released on Wednesday.
The new figures are the worst for the US president, who won the 2008 presidential election with a high approval rating.
Perry joined the 2012 president race last weekend.
According to a Rasmussen Report national telephone survey, Perry received 29 percent support from likely Republican voters.
