Talks dealt with the situation in the Iraqi arena and the ongoing dialogue among the Iraqi parliamentary blocs to find a solution to the crisis of forming the Iraqi government, stressing the importance of forming a national unity government which represents all the Iraqi people.
For his part, al-Hakim expressed appreciation of Syria's support to the Iraqi people and its keenness on establishing the best relations with Iraq.
President al-Assad discussed on September 30, 2010, with a delegation from the Iraqi National List headed by Ayad Allawi the efforts for forming the Iraqi government, reiterating Syria's support to any agreement that brings out that Iraqi people from the current crisis and participates in forming a national unity government that includes all groups represented in the Iraqi parliament.
In this context, President al-Assad held talks in recent months with a delegation from the State of Law Coalition, Iraqi Vice President Adil Abdul-Mahdi, Leader of the Iraqi Accord Front Ayad al-Samarrai, and Leader of the Sadr Movement Muqtada al-Sadr.
During these talks, President al-Assad affirmed supporting any agreement among the Iraqis that is based on preserving the unity, Arabism and sovereignty of Iraq.
