A bomber has detonated his explosives among a group of laborers in the western city of Fallujah, killing seven people, police says.

Thirteen people were also wounded in the blast, which occurred at around 9:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) on Monday in the city which is 50 km (32 miles) west of Baghdad.

"He blew himself up among a group of day laborers," said Captain Bashar Mohammed, the chief of a police station in Fallujah.

Ahmed Abdul Halim, a doctor at Fallujah General Hospital has also confirmed the toll.

Reuters had earlier reported that a car bomb had killed the seven people in Fallujah.
