Resumption of Benjamin Netanyahu's Trial After Cessation of War Against Iran

Following the cessation of the war against Iran, the Israeli court will resume proceedings in Benjamin Netanyahu's corruption cases.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An Israeli court is set to resume trial sessions for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister, in corruption cases starting next Sunday—sessions that had been suspended due to the war against Iran.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, with the start of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran, Israeli military institutions declared gatherings prohibited, which led to the suspension of court sessions. These sessions are held at the Central Court in Tel Aviv.

The resumption of this trial comes as disagreements continue within Israel regarding Netanyahu's request for a pardon from Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

On November 30, Netanyahu had requested that Herzog pardon him without admitting to the charges, while under Israeli law, a presidential pardon is only possible upon admission of guilt.

Netanyahu faces charges including corruption, bribery, and breach of public trust in three cases known as Case 1000, Case 2000, and Case 4000—cases for which an indictment was issued against him at the end of November 2019.

Case 1000 relates to Netanyahu and his family receiving expensive gifts from wealthy businessmen in exchange for providing favors to them.

In Case 2000, he is accused of negotiating with Arnon Mozes, publisher of Yedioth Ahronoth, to receive positive media coverage.

Additionally, in Case 4000, allegations have been made regarding granting benefits to Shaul Elovitch, former owner of the Walla news site and a director of Bezeq telecommunications company, in exchange for positive media coverage.

Netanyahu's trial in these cases began in 2020 and continues. He has denied all charges, describing them as a political campaign to remove him from office.

Furthermore, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on November 21, 2024, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
