AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Donald Trump's recent statements and decisions regarding Iran have sparked a wave of sharp and contradictory reactions among American politicians and figures.
Following recent developments and the announcement of a halt to hostilities, a number of American politicians have shown sharp reactions to the performance of their president, Donald Trump, regarding Iran.
Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Democrats in the U.S. Senate, criticizing Trump's approach, stated, "I am glad that Trump has backed down and is desperately seeking any way out of his absurd bluffs."
Similarly, Chris Murphy, a U.S. senator, said that Trump's recent policies have effectively benefited Iran.
He said, "Trump has handed control of the Strait of Hormuz to Iran, and this is a historic victory for Iran."
He further described the level of the Trump administration's performance as "shocking and at the same time heartbreaking."
On the other side, some Republican factions have also criticized this decision. A social media account close to Republicans, noting that Iran's capabilities remain intact, wrote, "Iran is still in power, still has its enriched uranium, and continues to launch missiles; what exactly have we gained from this war?"
Meanwhile, Jim McGovern, a U.S. congressman, said in a critical tone, "Trump is stopping the bombing of Iran so that Iran can open the Strait of Hormuz—a strait that was already open."
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic member of the U.S. Congress, called for Donald Trump's removal from the presidency.
In her remarks, she emphasized, "The president must be removed from office, and we can no longer jeopardize the world and our country's interests."
Additionally, Joe Kent, the former head of the counterterrorism service in the Trump administration, emphasized that for the ceasefire to succeed, the actions of the Zionist regime must first be contained.
These positions came after Donald Trump, the U.S. president, retreated from his rhetoric and threats against Iran and announced a two-week ceasefire.
In this regard, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran stated in a statement, "The enemy has suffered an undeniable defeat in its unjust, illegal, and criminal war against the Iranian nation, and the criminal United States has been forced to accept Iran's ten-point plan."
