According to Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA), Ayatollah Sobhani said Shia Muslims have made great efforts in the field of Quran interpretation and other Quranic fields.
“While the holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) has called the Quran Al-Thiql Al-Akbar (the greater weighty thing), how can the Book of God be isolated among us?” he stressed.
“The Commander of the Faithful (Imam ALI (AS), the first Shia Imam) was the first to interpret the Quran and all other Quran interpreters followed in his footsteps,” he said. “In fact, after the holy Prophet (PBUH), it was his Etrat (AS) who tried to explain and interpret the verses of the Quran.
“Shia scholars, too, have done a great deal in the filed of Quran interpretation, many of them writing various Quran exegeses. In fact, there are up to 120 exegeses of the holy Quran written by Shia scholars during the past 14 centuries. Some of these great works have gone missing during wars and pillages but even the ones remaining for us are an indication of the great efforts made by Shia scholars regarding the holy Quran.”
“We are proud that Shia thinkers were the first to introduce the thematic interpretation of the Quran,” the grand Ayatollah said, stressing that the Quran has never been and will ever be isolated among Shia Muslims.
He said that Quranic sciences have also had a great place among Shia scholars as these sciences are the basis of Quran interpretation.
