Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Pir-Hossein Kolivand has announced the fatalities and injuries sustained by civilians, as well as destruction of property since the launch of the unprovoked US-Israeli war of aggression on Iran.
According to a statement from Kolivand on Thursday, 18,000 civilians have been injured while 204 children, including 53 under five years the age, lost their lives over the past 20 days.
As a result of the aerial attacks, over 70,000 civilian units, including residential areas, commercial centers, schools, and vital infrastructure across the country, have been damaged, he said, calling those attacks a clear violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
Apart from residential areas, the US-Israeli bombardment has damaged 251 medical facilities, 498 schools, and 17 Red Crescent centers, he informed, saying one of IRCS staff was killed and 10 relief personnel sustained injuries.
Kolivand stated that attacking medical, educational, and relief centers contradicts the fundamental principles of the Geneva Conventions and the cases can be pursued at international legal bodies.
He also announced the injury of 3,200 women in the enemy's attacks, and unfortunately, the death of two pregnant women.
Referring to attacks on the vital infrastructure such as hospitals, airports, water and sewage facilities, and relief warehouses, Kolivand urged all international institutions, especially organizations active in the field of human rights, not to remain silent in the face of these blatant violations.
The protection of civilians is a global obligation, he stressed.
