Iran dismisses 'unfair and partial' remarks of Saudi FM

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has described as "unfair, one-sided" the statements made by the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia at the Arab-Islamic countries meeting, saying such a stance contradicts the requirements of a responsible approach towards regional developments.

In a statement late on Thursday, Baqaei also urged the regional countries to take an urgent action to prevent the continued use of their territories and facilities by the US and the Israeli regime to carry out military aggression against Iran.

No party can ignore this clear reality that the main root of the current crisis in the region is the war imposed by the US and the Israeli regime, and that these two regimes use military bases and facilities located in regional countries to plan, execute, and support their aggressive actions against Iran, he added.

Emphasizing Iran’s inherent right to defend itself against the US-Israeli military aggression, he referred to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, including UN General Assembly Resolutions 2625 and 3334, saying no country is permitted to place its territory and facilities at the disposal of third parties to carry out military aggression against another country.

Baqaei reminded all countries hosting US military bases and facilities about their international responsibilities, warning that parties aiding or participating in the US-Israeli aggression against Iran will be considered complicit in these crimes.

He also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, especially the principle of good neighborliness and respect for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all regional countries.

The spokesperson expressed hope that regional countries, with a rational, responsible approach consistent with international law, would prevent the US and the Israeli regime from abusing their territories and facilities to attack Iran, and not allow the Israeli regime's excessive demands to create division and discord among Islamic countries to be realized.
