President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized in a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev that the recent airstrike incident in Nakhchivan is not linked with Iran, saying that the matter will be investigated.
According to Pezeshkian’s official website, the Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents held a phone conversation on Sunday night, discussing the ongoing developments in West Asia amid the US-Israeli war with Iran.
Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for President Aliyev’s visit to the Iranian Embassy to offer condolences over the martyrdom of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and the deaths of numerous civilians. He also expressed appreciation for Aliyev’s stated intention to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran.
Reiterating that the Nakhchivan airstrike is unrelated to Iran, Pezeshkian confirmed that Tehran will look into the incident.
President Aliyev, in turn, extended his condolences for the civilian casualties caused by the US-Israeli attacks and underscored the importance of investigating the Nakhchivan incident.
The two presidents also exchanged views on prospects for developing joint economic projects between Iran and Azerbaijan.
