AhlulBayt News Agency: More than 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were martyred in the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran which was waged on Saturday by assassinating Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
The Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, a body affiliated with the government, announced in a statement on Thursday that at least 1230 people have been martyred since Saturday when the US, along with the Israeli regime, launched aggression against Iran. The coordinated attacks targeted mostly civilian areas in Tehran and other cities.
The figure, which has now surpassed the 1,200 deaths in Washington and Tel Aviv's strikes on Iran last June, was issued as a growing chorus of world leaders and analysts warned of the hollow legal basis for the US and Israeli military campaign. The single deadliest raid in Iran so far took place on Saturday, when at least 165 schoolgirls and 14 teachers were martyred in an air attack on a girls’ elementary school in Minab. The White House did not rule out on Wednesday that US military personnel carried out the invasion.
Also, according to figures released by the Iranian Red Crescent on Thursday, over 3,600 civilian sites have been damaged in the US-Israeli attacks. The head of the Iranian Red Crescent reportedly said 3,643 civilian locations had been targeted so far, including 3,090 homes, 528 commercial centres, 13 medical facilities and nine Red Crescent centres. The official added several major hospitals had been damaged, including Khatam Hospital, Gandhi Hospital and other rehabilitation and welfare centres. The Iranian Red Crescent said reports documenting the damage had been submitted to the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international bodies for potential legal action.
