With the declaration of national mourning, the flag atop the dome and the enclosure of the shrine was changed to black at sunrise.
Mourning ceremonies for the Martyr Imam Khamenei began shortly afterward, with large crowds of mourners and fasting worshippers—along with pilgrims and residents of Mashhad—gathering in the Payambar‑e A‘zam (s.a.) Courtyard and other courtyards and halls of the holy shrine.
