World’s Largest Iftar Dinner Event Held in Beirut

Nearly 5,800 people gathered in Beirut for an iftar dinner to enter the country's name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Nearly 5,800 people gathered in Beirut for an iftar dinner to enter the country's name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

According to Al Jazeera, Lebanon attempted to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by holding the world’s largest iftar dinner.

It was held at the BIEL venue in Beirut by the Ajialna Society.

Fedi Suwaid Ramadan from the Ajialna Society told reporters that the group carries out charitable and support activities in different regions of Lebanon and that their goal this year is to bring together all of Lebanon, from east to west and from north to south, around a single table.

He added that with the support of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, “we were able to shape this idea and make preparations for its holding. From politicians to volunteers and people from different walks of life, they broke their fast with one type of food and at one table to convey the message that we can be one voice and one hand and nothing will separate us.”

According to him, more than 90 percent of the participants were orphans and volunteers from Lebanese schools, universities and associations.

He also stated that this Ramadan iftar dinner hosted about 5,800 people, including Palestinian families from Gaza, and in addition, 700 volunteers from all over Lebanon participated in holding this event.

Ramadan is the ninth and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, and smoking.

They also devote more time to prayer, charity and good deeds, seeking to strengthen their faith and purify their souls.
