Iranian Cleric: Ramadan a Golden Opportunity to Internalize, Live by Quran

A senior Iranian cleric has underscored the spiritual significance of the holy month of Ramadan, describing it as a unique opportunity not only to recite the Qur’an, but to translate its teachings into concrete action in daily life.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Iranian cleric has underscored the spiritual significance of the holy month of Ramadan, describing it as a unique opportunity not only to recite the Qur’an, but to translate its teachings into concrete action in daily life.

Speaking during a Ramadan Qur’an recitation ceremony at the Jamkaran Mosque, Hojatoleslam Farahzad emphasized that true companionship with the Qur’an goes beyond mere vocal recitation.

“Ramadan is the month of intimacy with the Qur’an,” he said. “But this intimacy must not remain at the level of words. The concepts, ethics, and divine guidance of the Qur’an must flow into our behavior, decisions, and social conduct. Acting upon even a single verse can lead a person toward salvation.”

Sudden Grief and Spiritual Influence

The cleric pointed to the spiritual dimensions of human emotions, noting that unprovoked waves of anxiety, despair, or negative thoughts may signal harmful spiritual influences.

“When sudden sorrow and baseless anxiety overwhelm the heart, it is a sign of satanic proximity,” he said. “In contrast, tranquility, hope, and clarity are signs of divine attention and the nearness of angels.”

Citing a narration from Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (PBUH), he recounted a tradition in which a man asked the Imam why he sometimes experienced unexplained sadness and, at other times, unexpected joy and serenity. According to the narration, the Imam explained that sorrow and disturbing thoughts stem from satanic influence, whereas calmness and hope reflect angelic presence.

Farahzad stressed that Satan operates by magnifying hardships and instilling fear of poverty and failure, thereby pushing individuals toward sin and moral deviation. “God, on the other hand, promises forgiveness, abundance, and relief,” he said.

Spiritual Remedies Against Temptation

The cleric also highlighted practical spiritual tools to counter negative thoughts and temptations. He recommended consistent recitation of the four Qur’anic chapters that begin with the word “Qul” (Say), particularly Al-Falaq and An-Nas, describing them as powerful protections against satanic whispers.

He further described the remembrance phrase “La ilaha illa Allah” (There is no god but Allah) as one of the most effective invocations for cleansing the heart of anxiety and negativity.

“When a person truly believes that the only real source of influence and power is God Almighty, and that nothing operates outside His will, many fears and worries lose their grip,” he said.

Ramadan: From Recitation to Transformation

Hojatoleslam Farahzad characterized Ramadan as a month of spiritual restructuring and moral refinement. He warned that the world is filled with subtle traps designed to distract human beings from their divine purpose.

“The only path to safety,” he stated, “is seeking refuge in God and holding fast to the teachings of the Prophet’s Household.”

He reiterated that Satan seeks to intimidate people through fear of poverty and uncertainty about the future, driving them toward wrongdoing. In contrast, God’s promise is one of mercy, forgiveness, and divine grace.

Concluding his remarks, the cleric called on believers to transform Ramadan into a turning point in their lives.

“The Qur’an was revealed not merely to be recited melodiously,” he said. “It was revealed to be lived. Even sincere adherence to a single divine command can illuminate the path to prosperity in this world and salvation in the Hereafter.”
