Malaysian activist: U.S. must understand consequences of war against Iran in Ramadan month

MAPIM warned that any U.S.–Iran war—especially during Ramadan—would not deter the region but instead strengthen unity and resistance across the Muslim world.

AhlulBayt News Agency: MAPIM emphasized that launching a war during Ramadan would fail to create deterrence, instead awakening conscience, solidarity, and resilience across the Muslim world. The organization explained that this reflects the true “Spirit of Badr,” which symbolizes moral clarity and steadfastness against oppression—not glorification of war.

The statement noted that the Middle East is already in a volatile state due to ongoing Israeli aggression and rising fears of a wider conflict, especially as the United States deploys warships and military forces to the Persian Gulf.

MAPIM President Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid warned that any outbreak of war would quickly escalate into a regional confrontation that would be extremely difficult to contain.

In its full statement, MAPIM expressed deep concern over the rising U.S.–Iran tensions, including rapid military buildup and repeated threats of “limited strikes” should negotiations fail.

The organization stressed that this escalation is occurring during Ramadan—Ramadan 1447 having begun in Malaysia on 19 February 2026—making the threat of war even more alarming.

MAPIM reiterated that a war in Ramadan would not intimidate the region but would instead strengthen unity and resolve among Muslims. It added that the Battle of Badr teaches that arrogance does not guarantee victory and that oppressed peoples do not simply surrender.

The statement outlined several consequences the United States would face if it chooses war, including uncontrollable regional escalation involving multiple actors.

MAPIM warned of a global economic shock, noting that any conflict involving Iran would severely disrupt energy supplies, trade routes, and global markets.

It added that civilians and U.S. forces would face heightened insecurity, as wars rarely remain “limited” once retaliation begins.

The organization also cautioned that unilateral military action would deepen diplomatic isolation and erode international legitimacy.

MAPIM further warned that war during a sacred month would fuel radicalization and long‑term resentment, creating security challenges for decades.

The statement called for immediate de‑escalation, sustained diplomacy, and recognition of Iran’s openness to confidence‑building measures tied to sanctions relief.

MAPIM urged the United Nations to establish a multilateral mechanism to prevent war and avoid catastrophic miscalculations.

It also called for public pressure within the United States—from Congress, civil society, and faith communities—to ensure that war is not pursued as policy.

The statement concluded that war in Ramadan would awaken the region rather than silence it, stressing that the world needs restraint, wisdom, and adherence to international law—not another conflict that could ignite a wider fire.
