AhlulBayt News Agency: Hojatoleslam Sadr al-Din Qabanchi, the Friday Imam of Najaf, has emphasized Iran’s strength as a determined regional actor, warning that escalating tensions in the Middle East would serve no one’s interest.
Speaking during Friday prayers at the Grand Fatimiyya in Najaf, Qabanchi highlighted that while rhetoric of war and threats are circulating across the region, Iran continues to assert its strategic capabilities. He cited Tehran’s recent measures, including naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, joint military drills with Russia, and formal communications to the United Nations, signaling that any aggression against Iran would trigger a legitimate response against U.S. positions in the region.
“Iran is a formidable fighter and has the ability to change the rules of the game,” Qabanchi said. “The world should not forget the unforeseen assistance Iran received in the past, which turned the course of events in critical moments.”
On the international front, Qabanchi criticized the recently established “Board of Peace” in Washington, noting that while Persian Gulf Arab states have pledged billions in support, very little of this aid reaches regions like Gaza. He described the council as a mechanism to impose foreign oversight and undermine the role of the United Nations.
The Imam also criticized certain television programs aired during Ramadan for undermining public morality. He urged relevant ministries and the Prime Minister’s office to take responsibility for regulating content and safeguarding societal values.
Highlighting local governance, Qabanchi praised Najaf for its leadership in countering extremism, improving urban infrastructure, expanding access to public services, and addressing construction violations. He called on citizens to appreciate the city’s civil administration for its achievements.
In his religious sermon, Qabanchi reflected on the spiritual significance of Ramadan, emphasizing that the month is a period of cosmic transformation, moral purification, and renewal of the human heart. He encouraged worshippers to focus on prayer, repentance, and extended devotion, noting that such practices cleanse the soul, strengthen moral character, and prepare believers to navigate life with integrity and resilience.
“The month of Ramadan offers us an opportunity to purify our hearts, refine our intentions, and emerge spiritually renewed,” he said. “By dedicating ourselves to prayer, reflection, and sincere worship, we align ourselves with higher truths and strengthen both our personal and communal resilience.”
