AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian and European scholars specializing in Iran studies have convened in Vienna for a two-day conference titled “Iranian-Islamic Civilization: Identity, Components and Historical Glory,” held in a hybrid format combining in-person and online participation.
According to IRNA, speaking at the event, Iran’s cultural counselor in Austria described Iranian-Islamic civilization as the product of Islam’s dynamic interaction with Iran’s ancient and deeply rooted civilization—one shaped by millennia of statecraft, advanced administrative traditions, philosophical depth, and a continuous cultural heritage that found a new synthesis through Islam.
Academics and experts from a range of disciplines presented research and perspectives on the historical, cultural, and intellectual dimensions of Iranian-Islamic civilization.
During the opening ceremony, the inaugural Iranology Book Award—named after the late Austrian Iranologist Bert Fragner—was presented to Sibel Wentrker of the Austrian Academy of Sciences for her translation and critical edition of five volumes of Tarikh-e Vassaf, an important historical source on Iran during the Mongol period.
The conference also featured the unveiling of the German-language book Austrian Iranologists, published in Vienna by Unidialog Verlag, with the participation of leading Austrian scholars in the field.
