AhlulBayt News Agency: Sheikh Sadiq al‑Ghariani, Libya’s Grand Mufti, urged Muslims around the world to keep Palestine at the forefront of their concerns as Ramadan approaches.
In a post on his official X account, he said that reclaiming Jerusalem and liberating Palestinian land from what he called Zionist occupation is a duty upon all Muslims—an obligation that remains until it is fulfilled.
He explained that Islamic scholars unanimously agree that when captives fall into enemy hands, securing their release becomes a collective responsibility for the Muslim community.
Al‑Ghariani added that freeing Muslim prisoners takes precedence over other religious duties that can otherwise be performed without difficulty.
He warned that the negligence that once led to the loss of Jerusalem could, if not corrected, result in the loss of other sacred sites such as Mecca and Medina.
He stressed that scholars and preachers must inform Muslims about the obligation of jihad when circumstances require it, noting that delaying such clarification amounts to concealing religious truth.
The Grand Mufti further stated that if Muslims are unable to engage in armed struggle to free captives, they must allocate funds from the public treasury (Bayt al‑Mal) to support those who can. If public funds are insufficient, he said, financial contribution becomes obligatory upon all Muslims.
