Study finds Gaza population fell by 10.6 percent due to the genocide

A study published by the British newspaper The Guardian has found that Gaza’s population declined by approximately 254,000 people, a 10.6 percent drop, compared with pre-war estimates before Israel launched its war on October 7, 2023.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A study published by the British newspaper The Guardian has found that Gaza’s population declined by approximately 254,000 people, a 10.6 percent drop, compared with pre-war estimates before Israel launched its war on October 7, 2023.

The comprehensive study, conducted by the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, reported that by the end of 2025 at least 18,592 children and around 12,400 women had been killed in the Gaza Strip.

The study warned that despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in October 2025, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed since then, underscoring the continued lethal impact of the war.

It added that international law, designed to limit the effects of armed conflict, has reached a point of collapse, as war crimes have spread unchecked amid near-total impunity.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, more than 71,000 Palestinians have been martyred and over 171,000 wounded, according to Palestinian figures.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health said Israeli occupation forces have killed 526 Palestinians and wounded 1,405 others since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025.

The study also noted that Israel dropped more than 200,000 tons of explosive material on the Gaza Strip during the war, citing official statistics released by Gaza authorities.

Separately, Gaza health official Munir al-Bursh previously reported that around 50,000 children were born in Gaza during 2025, an 11 percent decline compared with pre-war birth rates, attributing the drop to the severe deterioration of health and living conditions caused by the genocide.

The Ministry of Health and human rights organizations have also documented the deaths of hundreds of patients and elderly people due to the devastating humanitarian consequences of the genocide in Gaza.
