AhlulBayt News Agency: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has described the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as one of the world’s most powerful and effective forces in the fight against terrorism, criticizing the European Union’s recent action against the body.
According to IRNA, in a post on his X account on Thursday, Ghalibaf reacted to the EU’s decision to classify the IRGC as a terrorist organization, calling the move political and illegal. He said the IRGC has played a major role in confronting terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIS), and argued that only those aligned with terrorists would deny its anti-terrorism record.
Ghalibaf also warned that supporting terrorism would ultimately lead to regret for European countries.
The EU designation was announced following a meeting of foreign ministers, with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stating on X that the bloc had taken what she called a decisive step by listing Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.
Iranian officials had previously cautioned European governments against taking measures targeting the IRGC, stressing that it is an official military institution and that any such designation is unlawful and contrary to the UN Charter.
