Former FIFA president 'Sepp Blatter' suggests no one should travel to US for World Cup

The former president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) urged World Cup spectators not to travel to the United States due to security concerns.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The former president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) urged World Cup spectators not to travel to the United States due to security concerns.

On Monday, Sepp Blatter, former FIFA president, expressed support for fans who are boycotting this year’s World Cup in the U.S. over safety worries.

According to The Guardian, Blatter also supported the remarks of Mark Pieth, a Swiss anti-corruption lawyer who collaborated with FIFA on potential reforms during Blatter’s tenure, saying that fans should stay away from the U.S. during the tournament.

Blatter added on social media: “I think Mark Pieth is right to question this World Cup.”

Notably, Pieth cited the killing of Renée Good by a U.S. immigration officer in Minneapolis earlier this month as one reason fans should avoid traveling to the United States. Blatter’s endorsement of Pieth’s comments comes after the death of another U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, last weekend.

The World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
