ABNA Team Covers 8th Muharram Procession in Srinagar, Kashmir

In a historic and spiritually charged atmosphere, the 8th Muharram procession in Srinagar unfolded peacefully for the third consecutive year, with ABNA’s special correspondent, Zainab Askari, reporting on-ground from Kashmir to capture the essence of mourning in the heart of the valley.

Ahlul Bayt AS News Agency - ABNA:  After decades of restrictions on traditional Muharram processions in Kashmir, the 8th of Muharram witnessed a massive turnout as mourners flooded the streets of Srinagar. The solemn procession moved through key routes from Gurubazar o Dalgate without disruption, with communal harmony and discipline.

ABNA’s reporter Zainab Askari, dispatched especially for Muharram coverage in Kashmir, documented Muharram processions with expressions of love for Imam Hussain (a.s).

What makes Muharram processions in Srinagar even more significant is the active participation of both Shia and Sunni communities. Many were seen wearing matching uniforms adorned with the hashtag #ShiaSunniBrothersUnity, symbolizing a message of brotherhood and shared reverence for the martyrs of Karbala.

In an interaction, a Sunni participant told ABNA:

"We’re honored that the team from ABNA came all the way here. It means a lot."

The event was not only spiritually uplifting but also socially organized. Volunteers lined the procession route, distributing water, helping participants perform wudu, and ensuring order. At one point, the entire procession came to a respectful halt, as participants stood in rows and offered congregational prayers on the road itself.

The medical response was equally commendable. Several free medical camps were set up along the route. Doctors in short interviews shared their motivations:

"Our way of serving is nothing but the lessons we have learnt from Imam Hussain's mission. Service to humanity is part of our devoted profession and faith," the doctors noted.

Zainab’s comprehensive coverage for ABNA will be uploaded in a video soon
