AhlulBayt News Agency: President Masoud Pezeshkian attended a ceremony in Tehran, joining mourners commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH).
The Iranian president attended the ceremony on Tuesday night, which marked the fifth night of Muharram, to honor the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, also the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Imam Hussein and his companions were martyred on the tenth day of Muharram, 14 centuries ago, during the Battle of Karbala. This day, known as Ashura, marks the culmination of a ten-day mourning period for the Imam and his family members, who were killed by the forces of Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph.
Muslims around the world view Imam Hussein’s uprising against the tyrant of his time as a powerful symbol of resistance against oppression.
