Gaza hospitals face shutdown amid critical medicine shortage

Gaza’s hospitals are on the verge of collapse due to severe shortages of medicine and supplies.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, Director of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Strip, has warned that major hospitals may soon shut down due to a critical shortage of medicine and essential medical supplies.

In a press statement on Monday, Al-Hams explained that most patients arriving from aid distribution centers are in critical condition, and intensive care units are already operating at full capacity.

He added that medical supplies are being rationed to the extent that items intended for one patient are now being shared among two or three.

Al-Hams also warned that if the current crisis continues, there is a high risk of a meningitis outbreak in the region.

Earlier, Mohammad Abu Afesh, Director of Medical Relief in Gaza, confirmed the worsening condition of the health sector and expressed concern about the spread of meningitis among children.

Since March 2, Israeli authorities have closed Gaza’s border crossings, preventing the entry of food, medicine, humanitarian aid, and commercial goods, which has severely worsened the humanitarian situation.

On March 18, 2025, Israeli forces resumed airstrikes across Gaza, effectively ending a nearly 60-day ceasefire agreement brokered by the US, Egypt, and Qatar with Hamas and other resistance groups.
