Israel’s failed plot to target Iranian leadership revealed

Ali Larijani revealed that Israel intended to strike a senior Iranian leadership meeting and later target Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran’s retaliatory response included precision missile strikes against Israeli and U.S. positions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has revealed that Israel plotted to strike a high-level Iranian leadership meeting, intending to target government heads and eventually the Leader himself. The plan, however, was foiled.

Ali Larijani, former speaker of Iran’s Parliament, stated in a Sunday interview that Israel aimed to assassinate key IRGC commanders and hit vital national centers, hoping to pressure officials into abandoning the Islamic system.

He added that during the conflict, Israeli forces tried to intimidate political, military, and security figures. Larijani himself received a threat giving him 12 hours to leave Iran, or face the fate of fallen commanders, but he defied the threat.

Larijani referred to the U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—as a “face-saving” tactic and dismissed them as inconsequential.

He said that in retaliation, Iran fired 14 missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar, with six of them hitting targets precisely—each carrying 400kg warheads. He mocked former President Trump’s claim that only one missile hit.

Israel launched its attack on Iran on June 13, backed by the U.S., targeting military leaders, scientists, and civilians. In response, Iran’s IRGC initiated Operation True Promise III, a major retaliation campaign.

More than a week later, the U.S. formally joined the conflict, bombing three Iranian nuclear sites—violating international laws and treaties. This prompted Iran to retaliate with missile strikes on the U.S. al-Udeid base in Qatar.

After intense exchanges, Israel ceased its attacks on June 24. Iran followed by ending its retaliatory operations after 22 waves of precision strikes across Israeli-held areas.

Larijani also accused the U.S. of exploiting five rounds of indirect talks to mislead Iran while coordinating militarily with Israel. The strikes began just before the sixth round of talks was to be held in Muscat.
