The incident occurred during the group stage match in the Swiss city of Lausanne. According to Al Jazeera, the individual jumped onto the court mid-game, running across the arena floor with the flag, prompting loud cheers and applause from segments of the audience.
The protest caused a short interruption in play as security personnel moved in to escort the man out of the venue.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the protester’s identity or any potential legal consequences.
