Iran rejects IAEA chief’s request to inspect bombed nuclear sites

Iran’s foreign minister rejected IAEA chief Rafael Grossi’s request to inspect bombed nuclear sites, calling it politically motivated.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has rejected a request by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to inspect its nuclear sites recently targeted in US military strikes, calling the demand “meaningless and possibly malign in intent,” according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran reserves the right to take any necessary action to defend its sovereignty, people, and national interests.

His remarks followed Grossi’s appeal to the IAEA Board of Governors for immediate access to assess damage at the bombed nuclear facilities.

The Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites were struck by the US military on Sunday, with President Donald Trump claiming responsibility for the attacks.

At the NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump declared the “total obliteration” of Iran’s nuclear program, a move Iran says violates international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

However, a leaked Pentagon DIA report contradicted Trump’s claims, stating that the damage was minimal and Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile remains intact.

Araghchi noted that Iran’s parliament has voted to suspend cooperation with the IAEA until the safety of its nuclear infrastructure is assured.

He criticized Grossi for obscuring the fact that the IAEA had already closed past issues with Iran a decade ago.

Araghchi also accused Grossi of enabling a politically motivated resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors, which condemned Iran while ignoring Israeli and US attacks on its nuclear sites.

On June 12, the Board passed a resolution accusing Iran of non-compliance, with support from Britain, France, Germany, and the US.

Araghchi further accused Grossi of failing to condemn violations of IAEA safeguards and its Statute, calling the agency “fully responsible” for the current crisis.

The Israeli regime launched a full-scale assault on June 13, targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites, resulting in the deaths of 627 Iranians, including scientists and civilians.
