Israel reopens three gates of Aqsa mosque after 12-day closure

Israel reopened the Hitta, Chain, and Council Gates of Aqsa Mosque after a 12-day closure.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli occupation authorities have reopened several gates of the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem after a 12-day closure that followed recent military tensions with Iran.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, the state of emergency imposed nearly two weeks ago has been lifted, and the Hitta, Chain, and Council Gates have been reopened to worshipers, signaling a partial relaxation of entry restrictions.

The Hitta Gate, located on the northern side of the Mosque and overlooking the Sa’adiyya neighborhood, is a key entrance. The Chain Gate, situated to the west near the Magharibeh Gate, is heavily used by worshipers, while the Council Gate also lies to the west and serves as a main access point to the Mosque’s courtyards.

Previously, Israeli authorities had enforced a full closure of the Aqsa Mosque, allowing only Mosque guards and Islamic Waqf staff to enter. Military checkpoints were set up at Old City entrances, limiting access to residents and effectively shutting down commercial activity in the area.

Despite the partial reopening, Israeli forces continue to impose strict restrictions, especially on Fridays, preventing thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank from entering Occupied Jerusalem without special permits to pass through surrounding military checkpoints.
