Iran and Russia deepen strategic ties amid Israeli aggression

Iran’s foreign minister held detailed talks with President Putin amid rising Israeli and U.S. attacks.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow as “very good,” emphasizing that the talks were detailed and timely given the current tensions.

The visit came amid continued Israeli aggression against Iran and just one day after the United States launched strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Araghchi stated that under such critical conditions, it was essential to hold close consultations with Russia, a key global power and strategic partner of Iran.

He highlighted the depth of Iran-Russia relations, noting that the two countries had recently elevated their ties to a strategic level during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s earlier visit to Moscow.

According to Araghchi, Tehran and Moscow have consistently supported each other’s positions on international matters and maintained close cooperation.

He pointed out that Russia has played a significant role in Iran’s nuclear program, having built the Bushehr nuclear plant and currently designing two additional facilities.

Araghchi also noted Russia’s involvement in the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) and its participation in negotiations with the UN Security Council’s permanent members and Germany.

He expressed concern over the regional and global consequences of the ongoing conflict, particularly its impact on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Araghchi praised Russia’s firm stance against Israeli aggression and said Moscow is urging the UN Security Council to take action.

Despite the likelihood of a U.S. veto, Araghchi called on other Security Council members to unite in opposing Israel’s actions.

He added that Iran’s diplomatic efforts have focused on exposing the coordinated aggression by Israel and the United States in international forums.

The U.S. strikes on Sunday followed over a week of Israeli attacks that began on June thirteenth, targeting Iranian military leaders, scientists, and civilians.

In response, Iran has launched retaliatory operations under the name “True Promise III,” striking Israeli military and industrial targets across the occupied territories.
