AhlulBayt News Agency: Khuzestan Province’s Prosecutor Amir Khalafian says at least 54 people have been arrested in the southwestern province over their connection with Israel since the regime began its war of aggression against Iran on June 13.
Khalafian announced the arrests on Friday, according to a press release by his office.
He said that the detainees were involved in different activities including spying for Israel, propagating against Iran, and spreading rumors with the aim of harming internal security and disturbing people’s psychological security, the official said.
He also appreciated the people of Khuzestan for their vigilance and cooperation on identifying Israeli-linked individuals, urging the people to immediately report any suspicious activities to Law Enforcement, security or intelligence bodies.
Khalafian went on to say that ensuring public security is one of the most important missions of the judicial system which will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace and unity of society.
Anyone who seeks to undermine national security will face a harsh response without any leniency, he added.
Israel attacked Iran in an unprovoked act of aggression overnight on June 13. Top Iranian military officials and several nuclear scientists were assassinated in targeted strikes, and civilians lost their lives when houses were struck directly.
The Iranian Armed Forces have responded powerfully, striking key targets in Tel Aviv and Haifa, among others, as Israel continues it attacks against civilian areas and infrastructure in different parts of Iran.
