AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli occupation forces (IOF) demolished multiple residential buildings on Tuesday in the Syrian town of Al-Hamidiyah, located in the northern countryside of Quneitra, near the occupied Golan Heights.
Reports indicate that the IOF, accompanied by military bulldozers, launched the demolition operation from a nearby military base.
The homes destroyed were located close to a base established by the IOF in the area several months ago, east of the 1974 ceasefire line, supervised by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
Over recent months, Israeli forces have escalated incursions into border towns along the Golan Heights, conducting demolitions and searches for alleged weapons, further destabilizing the region.
The demolition comes amid Israel’s broader military campaign in southern Syria, which has intensified significantly following the collapse of the Baath regime in December 2024.
Israeli officials have claimed the operations aim to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of parties it considers “hostile,” though critics see the actions as part of a pattern of territorial encroachment and escalation.
On December 8, 2024, Israel formally announced the collapse of the decades-old ceasefire agreement and confirmed its military occupation of the previously demilitarized buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights.
Since then, tensions have surged, with the Syrian government repeatedly calling on the international community to pressure Israel to cease its violations of Syrian sovereignty and halt further aggression in the region.
The continued demolition of civilian homes and expansion of Israeli military presence along the Syrian border raises renewed concerns about regional escalation and violations of international law.
