SCO Condemns Israeli Attack on Iran, India Distances Itself

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has issued a joint statement strongly condemning the recent Israeli military strike on Iran. The statement expressed serious concern over the Israeli attack on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on June 13, 2025, and called for a peaceful resolution to related tensions.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The SCO emphasized that issues related to Iran's nuclear program should be resolved through peaceful, political, and diplomatic means. The organization stressed the importance of dialogue and political solutions rather than escalating tensions in the Middle East.

However, India chose to distance itself from the joint statement. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs clarified that it had already stated its position on the matter on June 13 and continues to stand by it. The ministry added that India had informed other SCO member states of its stance and, therefore, did not participate in discussions on the SCO statement.

It is worth noting that the SCO was founded in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Currently, the organization has ten member countries, including India.
